Dining at the Oak in Charleston

Upon your arrival at this magnificent restaurant, your mouth will water from the distinct smell of Italian spices and your eyes will light up in awe of the beauty surrounding you in this elegant setting. The originality of the restaurant comes from its history.

Built in 1850, this three-level unique steakhouse was once home of South Carolina's Loan & Trust. Many of its original features were restored, such as the mahogany paneling, eighteen foot ceilings, and 150 year old pine floors, to give the Oak Steakhouse an outstanding edge. The gold bank vault now holds fine wine instead of currency. Also, scattered throughout the dining areas, you'll find one-of-kind "wine lockers," custom designed chandeliers, and fireplaces that give a comfortable feel to the space. Gorgeous decoration is not all that will take you by surprise when you bite into a wood-fired steak or chop seasoned just right with an Italian blend of fennel, red pepper, espresso bean, and herbs.

Chef Brett McKee thrilled Charleston residents when he opened the doors to the Oak back in January 2005. Not only does it have the unique flair and history behind it, but it also carries with it a reputable status as one of America's finest steakhouses. It's been featured in magazines such as "Bon Appetit," "National Geographic Adventure," "Health," and "Charleston Magazine." The chef himself is the creator of this refined Italian steakhouse and brings his culinary career to a new level in the outstanding choices of delicious foods you'll find on the menu. Select from traditional items like a Porterhouse or New York Strip flavored with a signature rub, or perhaps you'd rather sink your teeth into a full-fledged Italian specialty such as Steak Pizzaiola or Veal Parmigiana, which are also available. Whatever your choice, you are sure to enjoy!
